Spelman College students Jonecia Keels and Jazmine Miller are both Spelman College students who competed against colleges such as Harvard and MIT to design a mobile learning application and won. I love it that students from an Historically Black College won this challenge especially since some people think that HBCU's are sub-par and no longer a vital part of Black America.

"AT&T is pleased to announce that Jonecia Keels and Jazmine Miller of Spelman College, a historically black liberal arts college for women, have won the 2010 AT&T Big Mobile on Campus ChallengeSM with their next generation e-learning mobile application, HBCU Buddy.
HBCU Buddy is a mobile application created to educate and inform users, including both prospective and current college students, about Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) across the United States. It is a fully-fledged mobile service application that provides detailed information about each and every HBCU in the nation and integrates all facets of college life."
"Jonecia Keels and Jazmine Miller were recognized and awarded a $10,000 scholarship (divided between them) and a mobile device of their choice each at the Higher Ed Board of Advisors Meeting in Miami, Florida, on October 7, 2010."

What a beautiful accomplishment! Mad props & hats off to these Young, Gifted & Black women!
They are doin' the damn thing, & just reading about them makes me smile w/ pride from the inside out!
One.
Interesting I come across this read, today, after my daughter received her ACT scores yesterday.
She made a 21 in her first attempt (11th grade) and it's her dream to attend Spelman. If she's unable to, I am hoping she chooses UNC.
Her female cousin (12th grade) scored a 30 on her second attempt, so my daughter remains optimistic that she can improve her score.
Go Spelman.
I saw these two young ladies being interviewed on CNN, their accomplishments are proof that inspiration is not indicative of age.
Cheers to them and Spelman !
Love this! Congratulations to these two.
HBCU's doing big things!!!!
@Lin
This makes me smile too!
@Don
There are all sorts of places that tutor for the ACT and SAT. White and Asian parents send their kids for tutoring and that's why they tend to do well at those tests. You should consider sending your daughter.
@Jason
Thanks for the heads-up on the interview. I'll check for it online.
@Penny Wize
I love this too!
@CO
Very big!
Very good stuff!
@?
Indeed!
This is encouraging and it answers the question, "Are HCBU's still relevant?" Of COURSE they are. They're educating many of our best and brightest students.
But is this anomalous or the norm?
It will be real progress when MIT and Harvard are bragging about beating Spellman.
@Francis
Exactly.
@UBJ
Next year, if Harvard or MIT win, they will be bragging that they beat Spelman.
