William Jermaine Stewart (September 7, 1957 – March 17, 1997)was born in Columbus, Ohio, to parents Ethel M. and Eugene Stewart, the family moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1972, where Stewart took his first steps toward a career in entertainment.

Eventually he gained recognition as a dancer on the nationally syndicated TV show Soul Train. He became a backing vocalist and dancer for R&B/disco group Shalamar, and a few years later he recorded backing vocals for Culture Club's 1983 album Colour by Numbers. As a result of this, the group helped him land a recording contract with Arista Records. - Wikipedia

Flashback Friday: Karyn White

In terms of 80's vocalists Karyn White is definitely underrated. I think she was lost in a sea of female vocalists in the 80's that included Pebbles, Vanessa Williams, Janet Jackson, Jody Watley, Sade and many more.

Interesting fact: Karyn was married (in 1992) to music producer Terry Lewis of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis fame. Jimmy and Terry produced most of Janet Jackson's best work as well as tons of other hit songs in the 80's and 90's. Karyn and Terry are now divorced.

Karyn now lives near Sacramento, California where she is a real estate agent and runs an interior design company. She's 44 years old.

Karyn's work on Facts of Love with Jeff Lorber led to her being signed by Warner Music. Her song Love Saw It with Babyface is an 80's classic.
