Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, above, is an Iranian woman who has been convicted in Iran of adultery or Zina. She has been sentenced to death by stoning. According to news reports she was accused of having relations with two men who were not her husband. She denies this and there were no witnesses. And under Islamic Law or Sharia in order for a person to be convicted of adultery there must be four witnesses to said adultery.
This case at first thought seems extreme and barbaric. That is until you consider that the United States sentences people to death who are innocent all of the time. The U.S. even murders Black women who are mentally incompetent.
So while the case of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani is backward and truly barbaric, as Americans can we really point our fingers at Iran.

Coincidentally I recently saw a film about the stoning of an innocent woman in Iran. The film is called The Stoning of Soroya M. It's an excellent film so if you get a chance check it out.

You know this article made the hairs on my arm stand up.
The whole thing is quite scary.
In the meantime, what happens to the two guys she was alleged to have had affairs with, I suppose they are walking around like nothing happened.
I just hate double standards in any scenario!
@Beauty and Health Editor
As far as I know nothing has happened to those men and more than likely nothing will happen to them.
The unfairness, misogyny and hypocrisy of this is astounding.
I heard they (the men)were convicted of murdering her husband, hence this whole thing coming to trial.
cultural standards being judged by outsiders is one thing, a culture not respecting its own laws is another... she was convicted despite there being no witnesses and their law requires 4.
@brohammas
And on top of that, from what I've read, they already gave lashes as punishment and then decided to stone her.
I've recently added that movie to my netflix account
@Daij
