Mitrice Richardson has been missing since September 17, 2009 from the Malibu area of Los Angeles County. The LA County Sheriffs Department released Mitrice from the Lost Hills Sheriffs station between midnight and 1:00am on the 17th. Mitrice had been arrested for not paying a bill at a restaurant even though a relative offered to pay the bill over the phone via credit card, which the restaurant refused.
When Mitrice was released into the night she had no phone, money or car. No buses run in that area at that time of night. She was last seen at around 6:00am by a homeowner near the sheriffs station who said he saw her sitting on his porch. He said that when he tried to speak to her she walked away. He called the sheriff but they didn't go to the area for several hours. By then Mitrice had disappeared and she hasn't been seen since.
Mitrice's family and many others believe that the LA County Sheriff's Department was at a minimum negligent in allowing Mitrice, whom witnesses at the restaurant reported as acting 'strange' or 'confused', to be released in the middle of the night with no transportation or money.
It's also important to note that the Lost Hills area is not an urban area but a very isolated part of LA County with lots of wooded areas and mountainous terrain.

Now if she had been blonde haired and blue eyed this shit would be on Nancy Grace every night since she disappeared until they found her dried up corpse somewhere in a ditch.
This is a tragic story, I feel for her family.
@Reggie
Yeah had she been White with the same story this would have been all over the news for the last 6 months.
But at least we have our own media in the form of blogs to get the word out and keep Mitrice's name on people's minds.
Ditto! I still wonder what happened to her....
@cactusrose
This is such a mystery. That's one of the reasons I know the media has bias when it comes to People of Color, because this story has so many interesting elements and still they don't cover it.
I put this story on my blog last year. I thought we would know something by now. It's a damn shame.
@CO
I thought we'd know something by now too. But now I'm afraid to know what we might find out.
