Ten Americans have been arrested in Haiti for attempting to kidnap 33 children and take them out of Haiti. They were caught trying to enter the Dominican Republic with the children. The Americans currently being held on kidnapping charges claim to be part of a Baptist group.
It's time for UNICEF and other trusted organizations to step in and begin to bring some order to the situation with Haiti's children. In the days since the earthquake an unknown amount of children have been taken out of the country and may never be accounted for. This cannot continue. And those who have taken children, who can be found, must be held accountable.
In New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina thousands where displaced around the country. Families were heartlessly split up by those entrusted to rescue. It appears that during the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti families are once again being split and many times at the hands of those entrusted to rescue. Many of the children in Haiti who have been labeled orphans are not. Families are sepereated and only time and accountability will bring them back together.
Claiming to be part of a religious organization should not protect anyone from the legal consequences of kidnapping or attempting to kidnap Haitian children.
Why is it that the same mistakes that were made after Hurricane Katrina are being made now in Haiti? Didn't anyone learn anything?

I have noticed that the only orphanages there seem to be in Haiti are run by whites. Who is susidizing/funding them? I get the feeling somehow that orphanages are a lucrative source of income there.
Ideally,shouldn't they be run by the countries people?
@cactusrose
I think a lot of the orphanages are being run by churches. That can be a problem since many are trying to convert the people of Haiti to their religions.
I think the income comes from the adoption fees. Which can cost thousands of dollars.
Scary.
I wonder what makes people become so heartless where the well-being of an innocent child is no longer sacred. It's bad enough Haiti has undergone another horrible experience. But when (some of) the ones who are trusted to rescue and lend a helping hand harbor evil intentions....well, what more can be said?
@Don
"I wonder what makes people become so heartless ..."
Money. These people get paid by people wanting to adopt. It's a big money industry.
Kinda makes you wonder if their concerns are really with the children or if there was some other ulterior motive. Either way, it's gotta be illegal to go into any country in the world and attempt to leave with children.
The possibilities for evil in a structured environment are always there. I'm sure somewhere someone is selling children to perverts somewhere in this world. The more you think about something like this, the more concerning it becomes.
@Reggie
Yeah it's very frightening to think about all of the things that are happening to children around the world. That's why it's so important that the children of Haiti are protected now.
