Kick and Punch and Fight by Val
Being depressed is like being in a box
Everything is dark and still and tight
There's no air
The only way out is to kick and punch and fight
But the harder you kick and punch and fight the smaller the box becomes
That's when you realize that you have to breathe
You have to relax
You have to visualize your freedom
Then you feel the box fall away
You see the light
You feel the rush of fresh air
It's gone again
For now
I'll be ready the next time
I'll remember to breathe
To relax
But I'm sure I'll kick and punch and fight

I like this, Val. These are wise words, & yes, the 'box' metaphor is real! But you packed your own quietly emotional WALLOP to escape it, & in the process, gave birth to a wonderfully, seriously didactic poem!
Brava!
One.
This is dope, Val. Very inspirational words. I love the pic too!
Good poetry! And something we all feel the need to do when we feel hopeless, when our back is against the wall, but then "you have to breathe
You have to relax
You have to visualize your freedom" in order to get out. So true.
Thanks for these inspirational words
Nice Val, yes depression can certainly put in a lonely state and kicking and punching never helps, but i understand that it is our defense mechanism that drives us to kick and punch.
@Lin
Thank you for your kind words!
@Jason
That's a great pic isn't it. Thanks.
@Daij
You are welcome and thank you.
@Mizrepresent
It's like being in quicksand, the more you fight the more it draws you in.
Wow. This poem is indicative of what my son was trying to explain to me a few months ago.
Thanks.
@Penny Wize
You're welcome. It's dificult to understand unless you experience it.
I feel you. Having undergone a bout with depression in '06 and a portion of '07 I can honestly say that it's a matter of life and death.
Therefore, one must fight depression as if there is no tomorrow. With some people, there ended up being tomorrow.
Good stuff, Val.
