A guy robbed a bank, in Florida, then after running away from the bank he approached a car that was waiting in line at a Wendy's drive-thru and car jacked the car. In the car was a mother and her two kids. Police then located the car and fired 42 shots at the car killing the robbery suspect and critically wounding one of the kids in the car, a two year old boy. The mother was also wounded.
Does anyone think the police acted in a reckless manner? And if you think they did do you think any of the police will ever be charged with a crime?
If history is a guide the police officers involved might get a slap on the wrist, you know the routine, desk duty for a few weeks and them back to work. There really needs to be Federal oversight of police in this country.

Honest to God Law enforcement is out of control in America,particular in communities of color.
I always have said they are not here to protect and serve my community,but to contain the people within.
I think the hiring and supervising of Police in communities of color need to have more input from the community,but those things will not happen until we begin to take charge of our community and familys
I think the police are getting frustrated with the level of crime and crooks getting over on the legal system. Then you have police officers patroling areas where they don't have a basic understanding of the people besides the criminal element. it is a recipe for disaster.

The police see people as criminals because of the so-called war on drugs. Also why is it that police aren't required to have a college degree? It seems to me they should be required to have a degree. Heck maybe they ought to be required to have a JD.
I think that it's a little of everything that's been said here. And definitely they should have attained at least a bachelors.

There is no way the police should have fired those many or ANY shots into that vehicle. There are other means that could have been taken to bring that vehicle to a stop. Wow. Just hard to believe....luckily, the innocent child was killed.

I don't even think I can imagine how scary that must have been for the woman and her kids.
So the woman was a victim - twice.
Definitely a case of reckless endangerment on the part of the officers.
Most police departments tend to "hire down" because most people with sense are too dificult to teach to buy into the Blue Code.
It's the same thinking behind having younger, less experienced men join the military.
Most police departments are actively seeking minorities but in order to reach their quotas many departments have to lower their standards.
It's not that minorities cannot qualify - only that qualified minorities would rather be doing something else.
(Think; Blacks in baseball.)
But this is largely a result of uneven 'justice' being administered by these same departments.
Who would join a group that is largely seen as the enemy?

You make great points. Especially about some not wanting to join the 'enemy'. I think that is probably a major impediment.
