Some things that I just don't understand

Willow Smith

I just don't understand

Why Black people watch Mad Men and then complain when there are no Black people on the show

Black Tea Party members

How PBS became White Supremacist television and why tax payers are still supporting it

Why Jada and Will are trusting their daughter with a misogynist

Why more people can't see that Oprah is a modern day 'mammy'

Why Clarence Thomas is on the Supreme Court

Why track and field isn't more popular in the U.S.

How anyone couldn't respect Nicki Minaj's flow

Why people drink Starbucks coffee

Why Barack Obama is still so popular with African Americans

How any woman singer could tour with R.Kelly

Why it took so long for NPR to fire Juan Williams

How the Democrats could be losing control of Congress after only two years

Why anyone would watch the World Series if the Yankees aren't playing

This post was inspired by this post by Don.

-I agree if there is something about a show that offends you don't watch it.

-The last thing I watched on PBS was the documentary about The Buddha, had no idea it was white supremacist tv though.

-I think Will and Jada will be closely watching Willow. Her signing to Roc Nation was business. Since Jay has been married to Beyonce it seems his misogynistic past has been swept under the rug. Beyonce is magical like that!

-It does appear that Oprah is a double agent of some kind.

-Track and field isn't more popular in the U.S. because we live in a NBA, NFL and MLB dominated sports culture.

-You have to have a respect for cadence, dopeness and theater to respect Nicki's flow.

-Starbucks are intrusive in communities just like McDonalds, Papa John's etc,. They monopolize and monetize.

-I think the election of Barack Obama gave some black people a collective feeling of acceptance in this country and they don't want to let go of that feeling. It's starting to resemble an abusive relationship though.

-I don't understand why any woman or man of integrity would be comfortable touring with R. Kelly. I'll chalk it up to business. If you need money or you're trying to stay relevant, you do what you got to do.

-Apparently, Williams had a lot of people fooled.

-People's ping pong politics are to blame. As soon as the elephants start to screw up, then they will be singing the praises of the dems.

-Don't have anything to say about this but to co-sign the hell out of it. If the Yanks ain't playing, why watch?

I've heard people speak of Mad Men, but I have zero idea of what the shows is centered around.

Co-sign Black Tea Party members.

I believe Jay Z merely entertains his fans and isn't necessarily distasteful concerning women. Well, not all women I believe.

Too funny @ Oprah comments.

I believe blacks give Obama the benefit of the doubt and stand firm in our beliefs that he will succeed, or, because he signals "hope."

I don't understand it myself. I mean, what more could a Democratic president ask? @ How the Democrats could be losing control of Congress after only two years

Definitely a weird World Series. Texas vs San Francisco. It doesn't even sound right, if you ask me. Yankees versus Cubs would be more idea.

Thanks for the shoutout, Deux!

Amen to EVERYTHING with the exception of the Yankees. S.F. native here...so, Go Giants! =)

@Jason

Lol@Oprah being a double agent! That's great. You're right.

True about Nicki.

Starbucks takes it to a new level.

Val said...

@Don

Yeah, right? Texas? Texas Rangers? Who?

@Felicia Monique

I'm a New Yorker but I live in the bay now. So I'll be pulling for the Giants. But a Yankees vs. Giants World Series would have been great.

Reggie said...

What is the World Series without the Yankees?!?

Not some shit I'll be watching for sure.

Blacks DID exist in that time frame, but very few worked in white collar jobs, or lived in the burbs, & prolly none of the characters in that show socialized w/ any or even had black friends. It's called Realism: White-Middle-class-60s style.

Black people have the right to be as dumb, simple-minded, self-hating & delusional as any other community, group or racial make up. And some will do & be exactly that.

Wasn't aware of PBS & the White Supremacist thing. Will have to do more research on that phenom. If that's true, it's sad & shameful & goes against the initial purpose of their programming.

I would have to trust that Will & Jada know what time it is. Besides they are already in biz w/ Jay & Beyonce, as they are all producers/investors in the Broadway musical "Fela!"

Perhaps in time, history will view Oprah and her effect with a more realistic & critical eye.

Good question: Why IS Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court?

Track and field doesn't require a ball, and America tends to be ball-centric.

Nicki Minaj's aiight. I think I may be a tad too long-in-the-toofus to fully invest in her steelo/flow/personna.

I've only had Starbucks twice in my life. Not a huge fan.

Obama is black/Af-Am. He reps our history, our struggle & our history of struggle. To give up on him would be symbolic of giving up on our struggle for full equality in this country.

If a woman is over the age of consent, it would seem she has little to worry about (physically)by touring with Arruh.

re Juan Williams: every company needs a token.

The Republican'ts are currently engineering, trying & doing their level best to insure the failure of Obama's presidency... & that became their one mission on the night he was elected. The Tea Party came to be for the very same purpose.

What exactly does "Take Back America" mean? (ponder)

I (& millions of others) won't be watching the series, even IF the Yanks were playing. Fox & Cablevision are warring over money again, & thus Fox has been off the air for the last two weeks. This affects over 3 million New Yorkers who are currently Cablevision subscribers.

Commerce sucks!

One.

Hahahaha.

I feel you.

Hmmm.
If Mad Men is Madison Avenue in the 50s or 60s, why would there be black people in it? Thats kinda why the civil rights movement had to happen.

Track and Field? Cuz once we have established you can run fast and jump, we like to see how an athlete puts those abilities into practice.

Will and Jad trusting Jay-Z is one thing, but I'm more confused at Jada's rock thing. I mean go for what you know, but I just dont quite buy that she "knows" it. Sorta like the inverse Vanilla Ice. Fishbone she is not.

On that Beyonce thing... doesnt anyone remember that Destiny's child song about girls not leaving the house without their clothes on? What ever happened to that song?

My wife read your Oprah comment and is now despetrately googleing how to make a bomb and "where does Val live"?

Why watch if the Yanks arent playing? Because here in Philly I was kind of hoping for the chance to flip over a parked Police car. Who wouldn't want that?

Good point. Most of white middle class people I know TODAY don't have any black friends or know any black people. I can only imagine what it must have been like then.

I agree, that's why I don't get why Black people watch, knowing the era, and then complain?

@Lin

Perhaps you're right about Oprah.

Nicki just aiight? Awwwww! Lol

I swear greed really gets out of hand doesn't it. I'm sure Fox and Cablevision could come to an agreement but are just to greedy to compromise.

Ha! You might be right about track and Americans.

Please send my apologies to Mrs. brohammas.:-) But I have to stand by my assessment of Oprah. ***ducks***

Yeah, Philadelphia can surely do without anymore riots.

Soldier Of Love

I've lost the use of my heart
But I'm still alive
Still looking for the life
The endless pool on the other side
It's a wild wild west
I'm doing my best

I'm at the borderline of my faith,
I'm at the hinterland of my devotion
In the frontline of this battle of mine
But I'm still alive

I'm a soldier of love.
Every day and night
I'm soldier of love
All the days of my life

I've been torn up inside (oh!)
I've been left behind (oh!)
So I ride
I have the will to survive

In the wild wild west,
Trying my hardest
Doing my best
To stay alive

I am love's soldier!

I wait for the sound
(oooh oohhh)

I know that love will come (that love will come)
Turn it all around

I'm a soldier of love (soldier of love)
Every day and night
I'm a soldier of love
All the days of my life

I am lost
But I don't doubt (oh!)
So I ride
I have the will to survive

In the wild wild west,
Trying my hardest
Doing my best
To stay alive

I am love's soldier!

I wait for the sound

I know that love will come
I know that love will come
Turn it all around

I'm a soldier of love
I'm a soldier

Still waiting for love to come
Turn it all around
(4x)

I'm a soldier of love
I'm a soldier

Still waiting for love to come
Turn it all around
(3x)

Still waiting for love to come
