Six months ago the world reached out to Haiti after the earthquake that devastated the country with promises of billions in aid. And most of that aid has not been given to Haiti. On top of that the economy has been devastated by haphazard distribution of free goods. Small business owners such as street vendors cannot compete with free. So those who tried to re-establish their businesses are having a very hard time doing so. Which means that people who could be working and generating income are made to depend on free stuff to survive.
There needs to be a central body governing the hundreds of NGO's in Haiti. Without a central body some of the so-called aid is doing more harm than good.
Also the U.S. which promised billions so far has not delivered. Who knows what back room politics are holding it up. But whatever the problem is the U.S. needs to step up. If the U.S. can give billions in aid every year without fail to Israel, Mexico and dozens of other nations then it can surely give to Haiti in its time of need. Especially considering that the west is majorly responsible for a lot of misery in Haiti since it won its independence.
