I've been watching news reports about the people affected by the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico since the spill began. And I've noticed that the media narrative about who is affected almost exclusively focuses on White fisherpersons and business people. In fact from most of the news reports it would be hard to know that there are actually African Americans living on the Gulf who have been affected by the spill.
Thankfully I did see one report from
Michelle Miller of CBS news which included Black fisherpersons and how they've been affected by the spill.
This reminds me of the very few stories about African Americans who were lost or affected by 9/11. Hopefully media will do a better job of including African Americans as this disaster in the Gulf continues to unfold.

Val,don't wait on the MSM to show us the impact of this oil spill on the black,brown and yellow watermen,it just ain't gone to happen.
Now let one of them go-off and every media outlet on this side of chilly jordan will cover it.
Just keep in mind how the Federal Government has treated the Black Farmers who won a lawsuit against it and still have not gotten paid!
@BigMac
Yeah, the Black farmers just keep getting screwed by the government. I'm afraid that the same thing may happen to Black businesses in the Gulf.
I remember Michelle Miller, she's a beautiful woman. When I lived in New Orleans she was on the local CBS affiliate there. If I'm not mistaken she married the former mayor.
I'm never surprised to hear that people of color are left out of the reporting. I'd love to be able to say that I'm surprised, but I never am.
@Reggie
Yeah, Marc Morial, is his name. He's the head of the Urban League now. Lucky fella.
I'm not surprised either. Just appalled.
