The G20 (Group of Twenty) or as I refer to it Gang of Twenty, summit going on in Toronto is basically a meeting where nations and huge financial institutions get together and try to figure how to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. Okay, that's not the official agenda but that's what really goes on.
Anyway, it seems to me that maybe the poor and working class people of the world need to organize a summit to counteract the G20 summit. Poor and working class people need to band together and form strategies to fend off the constant barrage of attacks from governments and private financial institutions.
Maybe if the poor and working class had such strategies we wouldn't have gotten caught up in the derivative/ mortgage crisis that sunk millions of poor and working class people around the world. We, the average people, can no longer afford to sit around naïvely thinking that our governments are actually going to look out for us. That fantasy ought to have been crushed when governments around the world bailed out bank after bank and yet sat and watched as average folk struggled and drowned in the economic whirlpool that was born on the Wall Streets of the world.
Hopefully by the next G20 summit working people will understand that rather than watching worthless anarchist protests at these summits that we need to band together and have our own summit.

Okay now I am beginning to see that freedom fighter come out of your slowly but showly.
I have noticed a slight change in your posts but decided to keep it to myself. Basically, I believe you make some great points here but can you honestly see poor and middle class citizens standing any chance against a powerful government?
Especially in these days and times where, as you stated, the government has proven that it could care less about those of us who fall under the well-to-do bracket.
@Don
Ha! Yeah I was trying to keep this blog a little more light but I keep creeping toward more hard stuff.
"...but can you honestly see poor and middle class citizens standing any chance against a powerful government?"
It's called a revolution. They happen when the rich and governments get way out of hand. Think the French revolution. I think the world needs a good righteous revolution every now and then. And I think that time is coming. I really do.
I can't think of mechanism that could bring together the poor and working class of the world. It's far easier to bring together the leaders of countries who have time, means, education, and lack of linguistic barriers on their side.
Perhaps their will be some revolutions in individual countries, but I imagine that widespread revolution is not likely. Just like the lack of success that the French and Russians had in exporting their revolutions.
@?
That may have been true before the internet. But the internet allows poor and working class people from all over the world to communicate. And talking is where all revolutions start.
Don't you think that nationalism, ethnicity, race, and culture, make that a much harder process? Additionally, most of the truly disadvantaged of the world have no internet access.
@?
I think the roadblocks you mention are overcome by a shared desperation. When people are at rock bottom they reach for help. And if that help comes from someone who speaks a different language, etc. then so be it.
And more and more internet access is available even to the poorest of the poor. There are internet cafes in even the most poor nations of the world.
I think the day is coming when poor people from around the world will unite to fight against the powers that oppress.
I'd just be excited to see people come together in this country to bring about some meaningful change. I'm not holding my breath though.
@?
Me too.

We live in a Plutocracy plain and simple. We always have and we always will. Poor Whites have more in common with lower middle class blacks than they do the richest white man, a middle class mexican family has more in come with a black middle class family than they do a wealthy 3rd generation mexican but the Rich keep all of them fighting each other. While we are all fighting each other over property we don't own and false rankings (the number 1 minority in america) they are counting the chips.. Game Over!!
@CO
Wowzer! LA! That's right up my alley. I def going to plan to be there. Are you planning on coming out west?
Thanks so much for the info!
And the main culprit in keeping the competition going amongst the poor is the corporate media. And most of us eat it right up. We all have to get smarter. That's why I'm so thankful for blogs. With our own media we have a fighting chance.
Val - Lord willing and the creek don't rise I will be there. But the next thing you need to do is get on twitter so you can get more info and be in the loop.
