A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post about my being absolutely sure that President Obama was not going to nominate an African American woman to the Supreme Court. And I was right. Yesterday Obama nominated former Harvard Law School dean and current Solicitor General of the United States Elena Kagan. Anyway, I'm not disappointed as I don't expect Obama to show any love to his most loyal constituents. And if another Supreme Court Justice steps down I'm pretty sure Obama would nominate a judge from the planet Mars before he'd nominate a Black woman. I'm just calling it as I see it.

I couldn't help but notice the sarcasm. LOL! Of course I have no earthly idea who Elena Kagan is, or what she brings to the table.
What I would like to know, instead - what other choice would you have preferred Obama decided upon, of the darker persuasion?
I love the way in which you hold absolutely no punches. I need this blog in my blog life!
@Don
No one knows that much about Kagen. She really doesn't have much of a record. She's been mostly an acedemic.
My main choice would have been Kamala Harris, who is now the District Attorney for San Francisco and who is also running to be the California Attorney General.
Kamala was a big Obama supporter and campaigned very hard for him. Plus she's brilliant and would make a great Justice on the Supreme Court.
I think the love affair with Obama is starting to wear off except for his diehard followers. He is a nice guy and all but he's a politician. I'll never forget that NBC special they did on the White House. When they showed people that worked there not one person of color. I would have loved to have seen the press secretary be a woman of color. I just want diversity but people out - same people in.
@Co
I thought I was the only one that when shows go behind the scenes looks to see how many people of color are working.
You're right, the love affair is wearing off as it should be. Many African Americans sell themselves short by not demanding the same treatment other groups demand.
Yes. If I am not mistaken I recall you speaking on Kamala Harris before.
You know - It's always a wonderful feeling to discuss things with people who not only question certain acts, but who can also give facts and examples surrounding other choices.
Mes Deux!
@Don
Lol, thanks! I def feel the same about your comments.
He should have chosen Janice Rogers Brown.She is Black and doens't hold any punches either!
@M. Rigmaiden
I don't know a lot about Janice Rogers Brown. But from what I've heard she would have been a good choice too. I'm going to find out more about her.
Maybe next time....I'm going to be optimistic about this choice. But you know, if he had chosen a black woman, everyone and their mother would have said that the only reason he selected her was for the hue of her skin.
Sucks don't it?!?
Val - Nope, watching the behind the scenes is where the real story is. Where the real power lies..
@Reggie
If that's true then maybe 'we' are better off without a Black president.
@CO
True.
I can see your perspective...that was my initial thought when it was revealed that she had no experience as a judge, even though, neither did William Rehnquist, and like Reggie says, I want to be optimistic as well.
@Daij
Yeah but how long do we remain optimistic without getting anything?
