Imagine you are a college student and a rookie actress. You go for a role in an independent film. You get that role and you are then nominated for an Academy Award. Wow, right. Well all of this has happened to actress Gabourey Sidibe. Unfortunately Gabby didn't win the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Precious.
But then you might wonder, what next? Considering Gabourey's obese figure what kind of roles can she expect to be offered?
Let's face it there is already a shortage of good roles for Black actresses. And leading roles are even harder to come by. And good leading roles even harder. So where does that leave Gabourey? Will we even ever see her again in anything like a leading role? Or will she be a one hit wonder and disappear from film work all together?
Though it's impossible to say what if anything will come next for Gabourey I really can't imagine that we'll be hearing a lot from her in the future. Can you?

You are most likely right if we are waiting for White Hollywood to offer her another role.When we start bankrolling our own films then we can put the actor or actress we best think fit the role in the postion.
Great point. I am sure some do not like the hear truth such as this truth being spoke, but it's the truth! I cannot really say what lies ahead for this young actress, though it's hard for me to believe Hollywood will be kind. Maybe Oprah and Tyler Perry will create other roles to fit her character?

I read that she has just finished filming "Yelling to The Sky".
I rarely go to movies so I have not seen her acting. She has won various awards so my thoughts are that she will surely do other roles. Hollywood and skinny blondes notwithstanding!
Probably not, but it seems to me that she thoroughly enjoyed her ride and her 15 minutes of fame. I'll always remember that movie, there was fine acting in it all the way around, especially from Mo'Nique.
By the way, Gabby looked like Barney in that dress last night.

I agree that Black people need to bankroll more quality films. Even if we did I'm not sure there would be much for Gabby.

She'll get the ocassional supporting role but a main role as someone's wife, girlfriend...nope. Not in Hollyweird...
