If The 900 Number wasn't already on its way to being a classic, Ed Lover host of Yo! MTV Raps, turned it into one by dancing his famed 'Ed Lover dance' to it at the beginning of each show. The 900 Number was originally released in 1987 by DJ Mark the 45 King or The 45 King (real name Mark James). The 45 King was a member of the Flava Unit whose members included Queen Latifah, Chill Rob G and others. He also worked with MC Lyte.
The song The 900 Number samples a song by funk artist Marva Whitney (pictured at top) called Unwind Yourself. In 1996 DJ Kool wrote a song called Let Me Clear My Throat in which he wrote lyrics and placed them over the beat of The 900 Number.
