I used to live in the South and one thing I miss is that on Sunday people were really quiet. Now that I live in California my neighbors, though generally quiet, don't have any problem pulling out the weed eater on Sunday morning and trimming up the yard or pulling out the hammer and nails to fix the dog house.
My grandmother, who was raised in the South, had lots of rules about what not to do on Sundays. Like, you don't do laundry on Sunday and you certainly don't hang clothes on the line on Sundays. According to her you just take Sunday as a day of rest and try to be as quiet as possible.
Anyway, I miss quiet Sundays.

"I also remember when all the shops were closed on Sundays, that was a long time ago."
There are still places here in the U.S. where it is illegal to sell alcohol on Sundays. Which means a lot of places actually close.
Hey Val:
I feel ya. Sometimes I wish many of those old ways remained the same, especially the ones related more respectful Sundays. I've already written of my neighbor issues in full, so you KNOW where I'm coming from. Sundays mean nada to them. People & this society in general no longer hold Sundays as holy or even peaceful days.
And yes, I too MISS that quaint bit of civility.
One.
@Lin
Yep, to most people it's just another day.
