Yasmin was born in Somalia in 1976. She moved to Canada at age 15. Her first modeling gig was for a Sears catalogue. However it was difficult for her to get work in Canada because agents told her she had too much of a high fashion look. So she moved to Paris and her career took off. Her first job in Europe was for Italian Vogue.
