And speaking of Jet Magazine; it has gotten really boring of late. I know a lot of people have been complaining about Jet for a while but it used to be moderately entertaining. Recently though they made some changes, such as hiring a new editor. Her name is Mira Lowe.Anyway, Jet doesn't have any personality. As someone who collects vintage Jet mags my advice would be for Mira to check out Jet from decades past for some direction. I bought the issue above and it's just so bland.
Also they have apparently dropped the requirement that couples listed on the "Jet Love" marriage announcements page have a college degree. Why? That's one thing I really liked. Reading about educated African Americans marrying each other.
Maybe they need to hire a few bloggers to run it. I'm sure it would be a lot more interesting if they did.

When John Johnson died,the mag started to depart from his mission.
A old saying comes to mind for me with jet:If it ain't broke,don't fix it!
Can I confess I have been in love with Pam Grier for the longest!lol
I couldn't help but laugh where you stated that maybe Jet needs to hand the reins over to a few bloggers. I definitely agree.
I cannot tell you the last time I read a Jet magazine from cover to back. I always received a sense of whatever article being shortened, and not allowing the reader to get a true perspective of whatever story.
I remember when my aunt used to collect Jet magazines in the mid-70s and spread them neatly across her living room table.
@BigMac
Yep, they def broke it! Pam is a beautiful woman.
@Don
I really think they should. Jet has the perfect format for bloggers.
I have about 100 vintage Jets. They are like opening a time capsule. I learn so much.
Maybe we could run it Val? We'd certainly kick it up a notch!!!
Jet wouldn't know what a Black Blogger looked like if they walked in their office with a laptop strapped to their back and a sign that said blogger. Anyway...how about we tear off the cover and frame it. I know it's probably gone from the Jet Mag at the local barbershop...
@Reggie
We could run it. I think bloggers could save not only Jet but Ebony too.
@CO
I think you're right that Jet has no idea who we are. And that might be its downfall.
Yeah, I'm sure Pam's cover is getting a lot of attention. And I didn't know until recently that Pam used to pose nude back in the day.
In my youth I saw her naked in the movies so I'm not suprised. Keep in mind I didn't know she was naked until I saw the movie over and over and over again....ha ha ha
@CO
Ha!
It's only what, about 10 pages 'long' and almost $2 a pop now?
@Penny Wize
Ha! That pretty much sums it up!
I see Jet as necessary for the community, but it had fallen off in the last decade or so.., almost to the point of becoming archaic. At least now, it READS a bit more intelligently, has a certain editorial style it had been lacking. Change often arrives on a slow train. So, I can at least appreciate and see the effort being made.
One.
@Lin
Yeah but they need to hurry. They are hemorrhaging readers. And during this tough economic time they can't afford that.
I'm pulling for Jet though. It would be a tragedy for it to go under.
