Ten Americans have been arrested in Haiti for attempting to kidnap 33 children and take them out of Haiti. They were caught trying to enter the Dominican Republic with the children. The Americans currently being held on kidnapping charges claim to be part of a Baptist group.
It's time for UNICEF and other trusted organizations to step in and begin to bring some order to the situation with Haiti's children. In the days since the earthquake an unknown amount of children have been taken out of the country and may never be accounted for. This cannot continue. And those who have taken children, who can be found, must be held accountable.
In New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina thousands where displaced around the country. Families were heartlessly split up by those entrusted to rescue. It appears that during the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti families are once again being split and many times at the hands of those entrusted to rescue. Many of the children in Haiti who have been labeled orphans are not. Families are sepereated and only time and accountability will bring them back together.
Claiming to be part of a religious organization should not protect anyone from the legal consequences of kidnapping or attempting to kidnap Haitian children.
Why is it that the same mistakes that were made after Hurricane Katrina are being made now in Haiti? Didn't anyone learn anything?
